Hoot hoot! What a week for trailers, it fairly made my head spin! I guess studios are rushing out trailers to get some buzz ahead of “Avengers: Infinity War” drowning out all other PR and publicity noise like a Hans Zimmer trailer blart turned up to 11. So, what tasty morsels did I get my claws into this week?
Hotel Artemis (UK Release Date: 20 July 2018)
Having evaded my eagle-eyed gaze up until now and seemingly appeared out of nowhere, Hotel Artemis looks like it sits at the sweet overlap spot in a Venn Diagram of “Strange Days” and “John Wick“, this looks like a cracking action thriller and, frankly, who can argue with a cast that includes Jodie Foster, Jeff Goldblum, Sofia Boutella and Dave Bautista amongst others? This is one hotel you might check into and not check out of, even if you wanted to.
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (UK Release Date: 6 June 2018)
Being a raptor myself, I’ll always flock to a new “Jurassic” trailer! But this one hyped and annoyed me in equal measure for giving away what seemed to me to be far too much of the plot. Seriously, do not watch this trailer if you want to remain unspoiled – I’ve taken the hit but you don’t need to. Just trust me, it looks AWESOME and, if you liked “The Lost World: Jurassic Park”, you’re probably going to enjoy this sequel which riffs on a very similar theme but at least doesn’t try to take a supporting character from the previous film and put them centre stage as the hero…or does it? Spoilers aside, this looks like being one of the darkest and most visually interesting chapters in the franchise since…well, “The Lost World: Jurassic Park”. The hoot rating just got turned up to 6 and my tickets are already booked.
Hereditary (UK Release Date: 15th June 2018)
So I encountered this trailer on a nocturnal visit to the cinema (to see “Truth Or Dare”) and as I watched the trailer unfold, one thought blazed through my mind: “No fucking thank you!”. It looks legitimately terrifying and while I’m partial to horror there’s something about this film that makes me morbidly fascinated yet, for the moment, unwilling to go and see it, even though I think it looks amazing. I’ll gladly leave this one to Sweetie G to review and enjoy it vicariously!
Deadpool 2 (UK Release Date: 15 May 2018)
What is this, the, like, fourteenth trailer for this movie? Twit-t’who cares though when it showcases more of the Merc with the Mouth and his zany antics. Despite the plethora of trailers, this one still looks like it has plenty of surprises to offer and I think all comic book movie fans are rooting for Deadpool to avoid the ‘difficult second movie’ syndrome and knock this one out of the park. Another one where I’ve already got my tickets.
There won’t be a Trailer Hootenanny next weekend as I’ll still be preening my feathers after seeing “Infinity War” so you’ll have to wing it until I return. Owl see you again, though.
