The Craggus Quinquennial

Five years ago, I posted my first ever review on What The Craggus Saw, the (in hindsight) ironic and pessimistically titled “I Give It A Year”. Five years and 627,082 words later (that’s 343 words a day, stat fans), here we are celebrating the site’s fifth anniversary. In its time, What The Craggus Saw has seen “Star Wars” rise (and fall), “Doctor Whoregenerate twice and “Star Trek” go from…well, not strength exactly but, well…anyway, it’s back on TV (sort of) where it belongs. Marvel has continued its ascendancy almost uninterrupted while DC inexplicably stood on the shoulders of giants and somehow ended up shorter.

For previous anniversaries, I’ve done articles about sequels (for the 2nd Anniversary) and trilogies (for the site’s 3rd birthday) but by the time you get to the fifth instalments of franchises, there’s a lot more chaff than wheat to choose from. For every “The Empire Strikes Back” (fifth episode), there’s an “Attack Of The Clones” (fifth movie). For every “Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation” there’s a “Police Academy 5: Assignment Miami Beach”, “Terminator Genisys” or “A Good Day To Die Hard”. Time will tell which list the newly announced “Indiana Jones 5” will end up.

Blogging has introduced me to some great fellow bloggers and movie fans as well as given me an outlet to share my love and enthusiasm for the movies and TV shows I enjoy. It’s not always easy and sometimes blogging is a colossal pain in the butt but I’ve only come close to quitting a couple of times and, on this fifth anniversary, I’m definitely glad I didn’t.

There’s plenty still to come for What The Craggus Saw, including a couple of other major milestones in the next few months, but if you’re visiting the blog for the umpteenth time or the first time just to read this, let me say a huge

for being part of the blog’s success. It’s been a great five years – here’s to the next five!
