Super Movie Secret Wars – Third Round Day 1

It was a bruising first day of the second round, as Shazam! showed it was worthy by crushing the Power Rangers and while Thor put up a valiant fight, the air was thick with his wounded screams… mainly whimpering, a great deal of complaining and tales of sprained deltoids and… gout as Ant-Man And The Wasp sealed their place in the next round.

Batman Returns ensured a return to the next round of the competition with a convincing win over Punisher: War Zone as did Big Hero 6, X-Men: First Class and Avengers Assemble as they swept aside Chronicle, Blade: Trinity and Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 2.

Thor: Ragnarok and The Mask enjoyed more competitive matches, with the latter only just shading the tie over Blade and Thor: Ragnarok just outpacing the original Guardians Of The Galaxy as Marvel’s multiple second round civil wars took a terrible toll.

Day two of the second round brought even more casualties. Superman made Superman II kneel before it, although it was pretty close as quality won out over sheer entertainment value. Elsewhere, The Incredible Hulk became the Incredulous Hulk after narrowly defeating The Lego Batman Movie. In a bad day for webheads, The Amazing Spider-Man and Spider-Man 3 were swept aside by Captain America: Civil War and The Incredibles, with Spider-Man 3 failing to register a single vote against the Pixar powerhouse.

In something of a surprise outcome, the lacklustre Incredibles II trounced the underrated Sky High and Deadpool lost the battle of the snark side as Iron Man flew into the third round. The Friendly Spider-Verse Spider-Men salvaged some pride by defeating Wonder Woman, one of the few remaining DCEU films still standing and Iron Man 3 held off a strong challenge from the first X-Men movie to ensure that two out of three Iron Man movies stayed in the competition.

So, slide down a new set of polls to the vote cave and choose who gets through to the fourth round.  These eight matches close at 1800 BST on April 19th so make sure you vote before then! In the event of a tie, the match will go to a sudden-death penalty shoot-out Twitter poll. If that’s still a tie, I’ll toss a coin.

Let’s have a good clean fight and may the best/ most influential/ most important/ most fun movie win!

It’s often been said that Tony Stark is his own worst enemy and now it’s doubly true as Iron Man 3 takes on Avengers: Age Of Ultron

Both movies have their brushes with other dimensions but this is a match where we’ll definitely be using our made-up names.

The MCU’s first versus the MCU’s finest? Another one’s going to bite the dust as the Marvel field thins out.

Only one of these movies is suitable for family viewing but can family values overcome violence and profanity to make it to the next round?

The Incredibles take on an incredibly convoluted timeline as Disney’s domination of the contest faces a stiff challenge.

It’s Civil War’s turn for a civil war as MCU Spider-Man’s debut takes on his first solo outing.

If you’ve been hankering for a Hulk v Wolverine showdown, look no further – here it is! What will the not-so-jolly green giant make of old man Logan?

You’ll believe a man can fly and from way up there everybody looks like ants! Can San Francisco’s tiniest burglar steal a victory here against the man of steel?
